JONAPWD, FFF, SUBEB Collaborate to Actualize Implementation of Inclusive Education Policy in Lagos  5/5 (1)

The Joint National Association of Persons with Disability (JONAPWD), Festus Fajemilo Foundation (FFF), and the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) are collaborating to monitor the implementation of the Inclusive Education Policy in Lagos State.

In view of this, the Education Committee of JONAPWD paid a courtesy visit to the Director of Mobilization at LASUBEB, Mr. Hassan Teslim.

While speaking at the courtesy visit, the chairperson, JONAPWD Education Committee, Mrs. Rita Boyo stated that the meeting is a way to strengthen the collaboration among JONAPWD, Organization of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), School-Based Management Committee (SBMC), Government, and other State Actors in the actualization of the Inclusive Education policy in Lagos State.

Mrs Boyo disclosed that FFF has trained some OPDs and SBMCs to conduct monitoring of the delivery and practice of inclusive education in the state, adding that there is a need to identify areas of support to the peculiar needs of students with disability.

Mr. Hassan Funmilayo, a member of the JONAPWD Education Committee also introduced the monitoring template that Festus Fajemilo Foundation in collaboration with JONAPWD will use in other to support and identify areas for improvement in the inclusive units in Lagos State. He noted that the monitoring exercise would be conducted through funding support by the Disability Rights Fund.

In his response, the Director, of Mobilization, Mr. Hassan Teslim commits to giving the foundation and JONAPWD the maximum support in ensuring that no child is left behind in accessing education in Lagos State.

He also stated that to fast-track the involvement of SBMC, the Head of a section of Mobilization in each Local Government should be contacted.

Furthermore, he advised that a letter seeking approval should be written to the chairman, SUBEB so that the instrument can be ratified.

In attendance at the meeting are The chairperson JONAPWD Education Committee, Mrs Rita Boyo, The Director Mobilization, Mr. Hassan Teslim, Mrs Ojuri, Deputy Director, Mobilization, Mr. Adeolu Secretary on special Mobilization, Head of Special Mobilization, Apapa Local Government, Mr. Ogunajinri.

Others JONAPWD Education Committee who are present at the meeting are Mr. Hassan Funmilayo, Mr. Taiwo Lawal, and Mr. Atunwa Damilare.
