Engr Chike Chikwendu, Executive Director, Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, CEES has reiterated the need for individuals to stop their actions and inactions which is promoting Climate change in Nigeria.

Engr Chikwendu gave the charge during a training for journalists on Climate Change and Renewable Energy which was organized by EnviroNews Development Network, ENDNET.

Chikwendu said it is imperative for individuals to respond positively to climate change issues by encouraging what he termed 3Rs ‘Reduce, Recycle and Reuse.’ He added that to address Climate change issues, there’s need to “plant trees, use digital documents to avoid printing on papers, pool cars to work and leisure, cycle to school and work and switch off lights when not needed”.

He said this would address the ripple effects of climate change which include, “shrinkage of the world’s rainforest, changes in agricultural yields and species as well as changes in the ranges of disease vectors.”

Prince Lekan Fadina, Executive Director, Centre for Investment, Sustainable Development Management Environment – CISME) also added that every individual has a responsibility to take care of the environment.

Fasina appealed to the private sector and organizations to assist the government in improving the environment.

While speaking about the training, Micheal simire, Director, EnviroNews Development Network, ENDNET, said the purpose of the training was to increase the knowledge of climate change among journalists and also to achieve high reportage of climate change and renewable energy issues.
