Attacks on schools are a heinous violation of human rights – UN Secretary-General, António Guterres

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres has condemned the abduction of the schoolgirls that were kidnapped in Zamfara.

This statement was released via his official handle on the microblogging website, Twitter on Friday, February 26, 2021.

I am appalled by the abduction of more than 300 girls during an attack on a secondary school in Nigeria today.

Attacks on schools are a heinous violation of human rights.

The girls must be released to their families immediately & unconditionally.

The ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations stated that “Attacks on schools are a heinous violation of human rights.”

The text read in part, “I am appalled by the abduction of more than 300 girls during an attack on a secondary school in Nigeria today.

“Attacks on schools are a heinous violation of human rights.

“The girls must be released to their families immediately & unconditionally.”

This is the fifth time school children will be abducted under this present administration led by Muhammadu Buhari, and the second time this month.

Below is the timeline of the mass kidnapping of school children under this present dispensation of power:

Feb 2018: GGSTC Dapchi, Yobe [110]

Dec 2020: GSSS Kankara, Katsina [334]

Dec 2020: Islamiyya, Mahuta Katsina [80]

Feb 2021: GSC Kagara, Niger [4

Feb 2021: GGSSS Jangebe, Zamfara [317]

Nigerian citizens appeal to the government to put an end to this in other to curb future occurrences.
