In a bid to promote the benefits of breastfeeding and support nursing mothers and caregivers, the ACIOE Group, in collaboration with the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, commemorated the 2024 World Breastfeeding Week across three Primary Health Centres in Lagos State.

The annual event, observed from August 1-7, saw over 200 mothers gather at various health facilities to participate in interactive sessions focused on successful breastfeeding practices.

This year’s theme, “Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All,” aimed to address the disparities in breastfeeding support and encourage community-wide involvement.

During her session, Dr. Cecilia Mabogunje, Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District VI, emphasized the role of breastfeeding in infant health. “Breastmilk is so important; it nourishes and keeps the baby healthy,” she said.

Dr. Mabogunje further added that “all the nutrients the baby needs are in the breastmilk, and mothers should try to breastfeed their baby exclusively for the first six months.”

One of the main parts of the sessions was dispelling harmful myths surrounding breastfeeding.

The health workers with support from the ACIOE team provided information on how mothers can seek support during their breastfeeding journey, addressing societal concerns that often hinder successful breastfeeding practices.

To reinforce the knowledge shared, the event included competitive quiz sessions, with mothers receiving gift items for their participation.

This initiative is part of ACIOE Group’s commitment to improving maternal and newborn health outcomes in communities.
