The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO is partnering with Nigeria’s leading Football Consultancy Group, 5Stars Football to organize the 2021 Special People’s Cup aimed at empowering persons with disabilities and internally displaced people in Nigeria.

UNESCO, a specialized agency of the United Nations which seeks to build peace through international cooperation and contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, aims to engage Persons with Disabilities across the country through Football and other Traditional Sports.

In a press release issued by Olumide Aturu, Project Manager at 5Stars Football Consultancy, it was revealed that, “the 2021 Special People’s Cup will also engage youths with disabilities across IDP camps, as part of UNESCO’s programme to promote inclusion and empower people who have been displaced from their homes and affected as a result of violence and other forms of discrimination.”

Aturu noted that, “traditional Sports including Football, Baram sport, Basketball and Board Games will be competed among over 100 Participants in this year’s edition, which UNESCO says would provide an opportunity to  empower them with new skills and capabilities.

“A coaching clinic will also be held for people interested in supporting the discovery of new talents at IDP camps in the country with the Nigerian Red Cross Society providing medical support for the event.”

“5Stars Football Consultancy will be joined on the project by strategic partners, including The Africa-Carribbean Foundation, Baram Sport, Inara Foundation School for Special People, Roost Foundation, Konsole Sport Football and media support from leading media houses in the country including  BenTVLondon, AIT and TOSTVnetwork,” Aturu mentioned.

The 5Stars Special Cup 2021 will run from July 9-10, 2021 at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Abuja.
