The BO Foundation for Inclusive Media (BOFIM) has launched the ‘Her Voice, Her Vote: Disability Inclusion of Women with Disabilities in Osun’s 2026 Elections’ project, a three-month initiative aimed at improving access to electoral information for women with disabilities in Osun State ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
Speaking during the project’s inception meeting, the Executive Director of BOFIM, Blessing Oladunjoye, said the initiative was designed to address the information barriers that often prevent women with disabilities from participating fully in the electoral process.
Ms Oladunjoye noted that many election-related materials are produced in inaccessible formats, leaving many voters vulnerable to misinformation.
She explained that the project’s goal “is to ensure women with disabilities have access to accurate, accessible electoral information so they can make informed decisions and participate confidently in the election.”
The Project Manager, Temitope Adewusi, explained that accessible electoral information will be delivered to women with disabilities drawn from different disability clusters across the three Senatorial Districts in Osun State.
Adewusi noted that the project will provide voter education, fact-check misinformation, and promote civic participation among women with disabilities in the build-up to the August 15, 2026 governorship elections.
She also added that the project aims to document participants’ experiences before, during, and after the election to generate evidence that will strengthen advocacy for more inclusive elections ahead of the 2027 general polls.
The three-month project, implemented under the Digital Democracy Innovation in Sub-Saharan Africa (DDISA) Fund, supported by CIVICUS, the Civic Tech Innovation Network, OpenUp, and Wits Enterprise, will engage 30 women with disabilities.
The beneficiaries will receive electoral information in accessible formats while contributing stories and feedback on barriers to political participation, with the findings expected to inform future advocacy for electoral inclusion.
BOFIM also reaffirmed that the project is non-partisan and focused solely on promoting informed civic participation. The organisation said information gathered through the initiative would be collated into an advocacy output to support efforts aimed at improving the inclusion of women with disabilities in future elections, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
