A new Nigeria-focused digital health innovation, Open Doors Access (ODA), is set to transform how physical therapy is accessed and delivered across underserved communities, offering AI-powered, personalised recovery plans for patients with mobility-related conditions.

Speaking during a virtual press conference, the founder of ODA, a health and technology professional with a Master’s Degree in Health lnformation Management from the University of Washington, Moyo Daniels, explained that the inspiration behind the platform was driven by personal experience growing up in Nigeria and witnessing avoidable suffering linked to limited access to rehabilitation care.

“I see people suffering from conditions they don’t need to suffer from, women facing complications from childbirth pain, accident victims without recovery plans and individuals living with mobility challenges without access to physiotherapy support, that reality pushed me to build a platform that gives back to the place that raised me.” She said.

Moyo Daniels MHIHIM, Founder and Executive Director

Daniels stated that ODA is a mobile and web-based health platform designed to bridge the gap between patients and licensed physiotherapists, particularly in low-resource settings.

She said the system generates personalised recovery programs based on user input, enabling patients to begin guided rehabilitation from their phones.

According to the development team led by Fikayo Abolade, users simply sign up, input their condition and receive a tailored recovery plan. The platform also allows physiotherapists to remotely guide patients and extend their clinical reach beyond physical hospital visits.

“For example, a mother experiencing postpartum back pain can input her condition and receive a structured recovery programme within minutes,” Abolade explained.

“It is designed to be simple, accessible, and clinically guided.” He declared.

The app currently supports conditions including postpartum, sports injuries, stroke rehabilitation, arthritis and general mobility challenges. It also includes a feature that connects patients directly to physiotherapists when advanced care is required.

Addressing concerns around accessibility, the team confirmed that ODA is designed to be low-cost and inclusive, with a strong focus on underserved and rural populations.

The platform is also accessible via web browsers, allowing users without advanced smartphones to participate.

Responding to questions on impact, the founder noted that the vision is to reduce unnecessary suffering caused by lack of rehabilitation access.

“Nigeria has one of the highest rates of accidents and mobility-related conditions in Africa, yet access to structured physiotherapy remains limited. ODA is designed to close that gap and help people recover faster, safer and with dignity,” she said.

The platform, which began development in March 2026, is currently in its early rollout phase with about 100 users testing the system. Feedback from physiotherapists has reportedly been positive, particularly around improved reach and efficiency in patient care delivery.

While still in its early stage, the team said expansion plans are underway, with a focus on scaling across Nigeria before extending to other African countries.

“We are starting from home because charity begins at home, but the long-term vision is continental impact.” Daniels added.

On her part, Dr. Foluke Fayemi, commended the initiative as a timely innovation with strong potential to improve access to care and strengthen community health outcomes.

ODA developers also confirmed ongoing discussions with physiotherapy bodies and healthcare stakeholders in Nigeria to strengthen validation, adoption and wider health system integration

Users can access ODA Open Doors Access directly via its official website https://App.opendoorsaccess.com/login.

The platform is designed to be simple and accessible, allowing patients, caregivers and physiotherapists to sign up, create accounts and begin using the system within minutes.
