Members of Rotary Club in Lagos have highlighted the importance of working together and staying committed to achieve peace in Nigeria.

This was part of the submission made at the Peace Building and Conflict Prevention (World Peace and Understanding Programme) Day of Rotary International which held at District 9110, Ikeja, Lagos.

While delivering his keynote address, Rtn Chester Apasi of Rotary Club Omole Golden explained that “preventing conflict is a desirable task that must be sustained and It is the responsibility of the leadership to reduce tensions and avoid conflicts.”

Speaking about resolving conflicts in Nigeria, Rtn Apasi mentioned that, “if Kigali is what it is today, if Rwanda is what it is today, there is nothing in Nigeria that we cannot resolve.”

He asked that, “are we ready to face the truth as Nigerians? If we are, there is nothing that we cannot settle.”

On his part, Rtn Sunit Deb Roy, of Eko Atlantic Rotary Club noted that there is no situation where we’re going to exist without conflict for a very long time, adding that, there is no peace without conflict.

Sunit who said “Conflict is positive,” also mentioned that “lack of conflict can cause negative consequences in an environment.”

He tasked participants not to run away from conflict, but to face and resolve it

“Resolution of the conflict often involves negotiation to bring about an outcome that is mutually satisfying,” Sunit added.
