NICArb Urged Citizens To Embrace Alternative Dispute

We are alerting the public and governments about our activities and to adopt Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in settling conflicts before proceeding to court.

The Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb) has called on government at all levels, Citizens and proffessional bodies to adopt Alternative Dispute Resolution for the advancement of West Africa subregion.

Registrar/CEO of NICArb, Shola Oshodi-John made the call while addressing journalists ahead of the 40th Anniversary and 4th Annual Conference of the Institute.

The anniversary and conference scheduled for November 14th and 15th in Eko Hotel and Suites will feature professionals within and outside the country to address key issues arbitration practice in West Africa is faced with; providing possible solutions as well as processes in adopting ADR in West Africa sub-region.

Shola stressed the need to adopt ADR in Nigeria saying it would avail persons having long time unsettled cases in court especially in internal revenue sectors.

She noted that the Conference will initiate National Arbitration Policy in Nigeria to govern its act and practice. This policy will serve as guide in addressing International dispute by protecting National interest and Rights of citizens.

Shola furthered said International Arbitration contracts will be revisited and adjusted in line with innovation on current trends, this act will expand the scope of Arbitration in Nigeria.

To mark the 40th anniversary and 4th annual conference, the institute will launch a Building project to commemorate the celebration. Induction of over 550 members will also be conducted.

It was affirmed that arbitrators are proffessional bodies across all sectors; one-third are said to be lawyers while others are from different disciplines.

The institute in the past one year has been able to train over 900 people who will be inducted on the 15th of November. More so undergraduate and professionals from different disciplines were tutored. Not Lawyers only, but also to professionals from different backgrounds.

Present at the Press briefing are Funmi Obisan; CEO, Kajole Integrated Investment PLC also the Co-Chairperson 40th Anniversary and 4th Conference planning committe, Clara Umeanu; Company Secretary Governing Council Member, and Chinyere Onuorah; Deputy Registrar NICArb.
