Media experts have urged journalists to make the best use of the Nigeria Media Capacity Development Report 2020 which was produced by Media Career Development Network, MCDN.

The charge was given during the virtual launch of the report which is a compilation of training and programmes conducted by various media NGOs in Nigeria.

In his opening remark, Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, Executive Director, MCDN, said the report is put together to provide access to information on what various media NGOs did in 2020 and will be doing in 2021.

Dr. Qasim Akinreti, former Chairman, Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, urged journalists to make the best use of the opportunity created by the report.

He also advised MCDN to do a follow-up on successes of journalists so that it can be showcased.

On his part, Executive Director, International Press Centre, Mr. Lanre Arogundade noted that there are numerous opportunities for journalists to tap into, “but they need to make the best use of every opportunity to be able to get more.”

“Our projects are donor-driven, and funders would want to see the impacts of our works, so it is important for journalists to utilize whatever they learn during trainings,” he added.

Mr. Arogundade also highlighted the need for journalists to be focused on Solution Journalism, stressing that, “irrespective of beats, journalists should think of the impact their stories will make.”

Alhaji Alli Yusuf, Managing Editor, Northern Operations, The Nation Newspaper, stressed that there should be synergy, relationship between the NGOs and media news room, so that the right candidates can be recommended for training and available opportunities.
