Journalism professionals have been urged to adopt various approaches to earn more income beyond their regular newsroom jobs.

The advise was given by John Eromosele, Trainer and Facilitator of Hacks Hackers, a monthly training program for journalists supported by Code for Africa.
Eromosele while taking the session on “Journalism & Monetization” said there are numerous ways journalists can be rewarded for their passion.
He trained participants on the use of Google Adsense on their personal website which he said can earn them income depending on the format they subscribe for.
Giving tips on web management, John said “the use of Google Analytics and periodic backup are essentials to sustain readers on the platform or resolve reasons people are not reading on your platform. The periodic backup ensures you don’t loose vital documents in case of malware.”
A section on investment was also taken which gives suggestions on investment opportunities which the journalists could explore.
Hacks/Hackers is a monthly meet-up of journalists which holds in Lagos, Benin and Abuja. The female section, ‘Wana Data’ also hold every month but strictly for female journalists. The training is free and interested participants can register via http://bit.ly/CodeForAfrica.
