In a bid to address one of the most pressing issues facing youth today, the African Youth Initiative on Crime Prevention (AYICRIP) is set to host its 10th National Youth Summit on Drug and Substance Abuse Prevention.

The event themed: “Empowering the Youth for a Drug-Free Future” aims to empower young people in the fight against drug abuse, providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to build a drug-free future.

Taking place from November 26 to 27, 2024, at the Main Auditorium of the Ministry of Finance Abuja. This summit will bring together thought leaders, policymakers, educators, youth advocates, and faith-based organizations to tackle the multifaceted issue of substance abuse in the country.

In a statement issued by the Executive Director of AYICRIP, Chris Ibe, the Group noted that the summit will focus on educating and inspiring the younger generation to take a stand against drug abuse. This goal is driven by the understanding that sustainable change begins with the youth, who are most affected by the scourge of drugs in society.

Mr Ibe further noted that the summit will cover a wide range of sub-themes, ensuring a holistic discussion on drug and substance abuse. Key areas of focus include prevention and recovery, legalization, legislation, and policy development.

“Faith-based institutions and drugs, substance abuse and the media, gender Issues in substance abuse, vulnerable populations, regulation and law enforcement, illicit trafficking and transnational organized crime.

He opined that this summit will be a unique opportunity for young people and stakeholders to engage in meaningful conversations about drug prevention. It will serve as a platform for youth to voice their concerns, learn from experts, and forge a path toward a drug-free future.
