As parts of the process of reviewing the National Social Protection Policy, (NSPP) the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning is holding the North East and North West Joint Zonal Consultation Meeting, to harvest the inputs of relevant stakeholders into the NSPP.

While giving an opening remark at the consultation forum, the Permanent Secretary, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Olusola Idowu, noted that the zonal consultations were critical to ensure that the policy captures all necessary details as applicable in various parts of the country.

Mrs. Idowu who was represented by the Director, Department of Social Development, in the Ministry, Mr. Omotayo Adeyemi, buttressed that the zonal consultations would help in the achievement of the Sustainable Goals, by leaving no one behind.

Dr. Sanjo Faniran, Director, Social Protection, explain that the 4-day consultative session is aimed at validating the draft diagnostic report of the policy.

He also added that, “it will help to incorporate and harvest inputs of all various stakeholders, to ensure an all-inclusive and all-encompassing Social Protection Policy for the benefit of the vulnerable in the spirit of leave no one behind.”|

Dr. Faniran also noted that the policy is a major concern to all because “not all of us are poor, but all of us are vulnerable.”

While giving a presentation on “Social Protection and Disability: The Need for State Disability Laws”,  the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr. James Lalu called on all states to domesticate the Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 for sustainability and optimum benefit from federal interventions.

The review of the National Social Protection Policy is being supported by Save the Children International, Action Against Hunger, UNICEF, International Labour Organization, United Nations Development Fund and World Food Programme.
