The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights says it has transmitted an urgent letter of appeal to the President Muhammadu Buhari regarding reprisals by State and non-State actors against organizers and perceived supporters of the #EndSARS protests.

The joint letter of appeal was transmitted by the commission through the rapporteur on human rights situation in Nigeria; the Vice Chairperson of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders and Focal Point on Reprisals in Africa; and the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information.

Though the content of the letter was not disclosed, the commission in a press statement explained that it is about reprisals against organizers and perceived supporters of the #EndSARS protests.
