Election Violence -KDI/IFES Monitors Embark On Advocacy Visit To NOA

The need for Nigerians, especially Lagosians, to be peaceful and tolerance to each other now that the 2019 Presidential Election has come and gone necessitated the advocacy visit of International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES) and KIMPACT to Lagos Directorate of National Orientation Agency (NOA) as a key stakeholder in mobilizing and sensitizing the people.

Speaking during the meeting on Wednesday the 27th of February, 2019; the Lead Monitor for Lagos State (IFES/KDI) Mr. Micheal Ogunshola noted that the group is out to preach against violence but a peaceful Nigeria through the Agency’s platforms best suited in the communities and grassroot. He requested the Agency to help and massively propagate a violence free Nigeria especially now that the elections are almost over.

Welcoming the team, the Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lagos Directorate, Mr. Waheed lshola thanked the group for appreciating the activities of the Agency and seeing them worthy to carry out the task.

He noted that the Agency has been very active in the area of sensitization and mobilization of the people towards violence-free and fair elections in the communities, market places, town halls etc. The State Director promised to adequately use the existing structure of the Agency at the Local Government level to carry out political awareness campaign on factors mitigation against violence-free election so that the good people of Lagos state will tolerate each other and live happily thereafter.

He used the occasion to invite the group to the Agency’s forthcoming programme on “SAY NO VOTE BUYING OR SEELING” schedule for Thursday 28th February, 2019.

Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of a customized T-shirt to the Director and the presentation of the Agency’s information and educational materials to the group.
