Stakeholders within the digital space have demanded that Nigeria sets up a data protection to ensure that sensitive information being released to government agencies is secured and private.

The demand is in response to the ongoing linkage of SIM cards to National Identification Number (NIN) as mandated by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The stakeholders made their demands at the Digital ID stakeholder engagement session which was organized by Paradigm Initiative, in partnership with Omidyar Network.

Chaired by Adeboye Adegoke, Senior Program Manager, PIN, Digital Rights, the session helped to build trust between the people and NIMC, allowing the people the chance to hold NIMC accountable in terms of how much information they gather and how they handle it.
