COVID-19 – Youth Distributes Supplements, Sanitary Products to Pregnant Women, Girls

Mr. Akinola Shasanya, youth and change maker has led his team to distribute pregnancy supplements to pregnant women in Abule Abule Iroko, Ado Odo Otta, Ogun State.

Shasanya who said the initiative was aimed at improving pregnant women’s access to healthcare especially as it has been slightly difficult to go to health centers as a result of COVID-19.

The project tagged ‘Project PW&G’ – Pregnant Women and Girls Health was supported by The Pollination Project.

Speaking on the impact of the support from TPP, Akinola said the grant allowed him and his team to impact pregnant women and also cater to the needs of young girls in the community on issues of menstrual hygiene management.

He explained that the distribution of the pregnancy supplement is to “help boost their immune system and help them have healthy babies.

“The project has also helped the young girls to have access to safe and Hygienic Sanitary products for their menstruation thereby helping reduce period poverty to the barest minimum,” he added.

He appreciated the support of the TPP which according to him has enabled indigent women and girls have access to facilities that are beneficial to them during a period of a global pandemic where most people are barely struggling for survival.

On his part, Mr. Paul Adeogun, team mate with Shasanya, also said that with the support from The Pollination Project COVID-19 responses, they were able to reach out to 38 pregnant women in the rural community with pregnancy supplements to avert complications during pregnancy.

He also noted that sanitary towels were distributed to girls, while some community members benefitted from free hand sanitizers and free nose masks.
