Civic Hive, an innovative tech solutions initiative in Nigeria, has announced the 2025 edition of the West Africa CivicTech Conference.
The conference, which will bring together civic tech innovators, civil society leaders, government leaders, and tech experts is set to take place in Lagos, Nigeria, from May 19 to May 21.
Themed “Strengthening Democracy in West Africa Through Technology”, the three-day conference will unite tech stakeholders and policymakers examine how digital innovation can address long-standing democratic challenges.
The agenda will center on exploring how digital tools and platforms can improve governance, foster transparency, counter misinformation, and expand opportunities for citizen engagement in democratic processes.
Participants will engage in panels, workshops, and exhibitions that display emerging technologies and innovative practices that support democratic development. “This year’s edition is especially timely given the evolving political dynamics in the region,” organizers noted. “It will provide a space for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the design of practical tools that support accountable governance.”
The organizers are particularly encouraging participation from media professionals, civic actors, youth-led organizations, and tech innovators who are passionate about democracy and social impact. The event promises to be a strategic platform for both grassroots and institutional stakeholders to connect and scale solutions for real-world democratic issues.
One of the key features of the conference will be the Hack4Democracy Hackathon, a regional competition where tech-driven teams will develop digital solutions that address voter apathy, electoral fraud, disinformation, and limited civic engagement.
The hackathon has become a cornerstone of the conference, showcasing the potential of technology in revitalizing democratic participation across the region.
The CivicTech Conference aims to directly tackle issues by equipping participants with the tools and networks needed to drive change.
As preparations for the 2025 edition intensify, organizers are calling on regional stakeholders to register and be part of a movement that places innovation at the heart of democracy. “This conference is not just an event; it’s a catalyst for a more open, participatory, and tech-empowered West Africa.”
