BONews Service has partnered with Naija Feminists Media (NFM) to address the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of women with disabilities in Nigerian media. This collaboration aims to ensure that the often-overlooked stories of women with disabilities receive the fair and accurate coverage they deserve, counteracting the prevalent distortions and stereotypes that surround their experiences.

Founded in 2021, Naija Feminists Media began as a social media platform and has since evolved into an organized entity advocating for women’s liberation through mass media. In 2024, NFM expanded its mission to challenge the status quo and promote gender equality, free from the influence of profitability or propaganda. NFM’s vision is centered on women’s liberation, with a particular focus on the struggles faced by Black women in the pursuit of equality. Their broader mission is to revolutionize Nigeria’s media landscape by making feminism mainstream, through investigative stories, feminist films, and women-centered vodcasts, all aimed at dismantling harmful gender stereotypes and amplifying Black feminist voices to create a more inclusive society.

Blessing Oladunjoye, Publisher of BO News and Executive Director of BOFIM, expressed that disability issues are frequently inadequately reported in Nigerian media, and when covered, they often lack a human rights-based approach. “This partnership will improve the representation of women with disabilities, elevating their visibility and challenging societal norms that marginalize them,” Oladunjoye stated. “It will create space for their stories to inspire change and foster greater inclusion in Nigerian society.”

Together, BO News and NFM aim to shift the narrative around women with disabilities, amplifying their voices and ensuring their stories are told with the dignity and respect they deserve. This partnership is an important step toward creating a more equitable media landscape in Nigeria, where all women can be seen, heard, and understood.
