Blind Voters Commend INEC for Provision of Braille Ballot Guides

Persons with Disabilities have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for making provisions for PWDs to cast their votes unhindered during the gubernatorial elections in Ondo state.

Blind voters at PU 8 Ijebu 1, Owo LGA disclosed that there were braille ballot guide at the polling unit which enabled them to vote without any assistance.

Agada Joseph Ajayi while speaking with BONews Service explained that there were BBGs at his polling unit and he was able to cast his vote without external assistance.

“There are braille ballot guides here and we all were able to cast our votes.

“We were also given priority when we arrived at the polling unit, so it was quite easy for us to vote,” he added.

Other Blind voters at the PU, Ojomo Oluwasegun Igbekele, Oluwasijibomi Sola also noted that the atmosphere was calm and it was not difficult for them to vote.

Also at PU 16, Ijebu 1, Owo LGA a Blind voter, Agunde Gbenga (pseudonym) was unble to cast his vote because he had his temporary voter’s card instead of the PVC.

Speaking on BBG, he said he acquired his blindness as an adult and he cannot read braille but had his wife who would have guided him to vote.

“I can’t read braille because it’s not all Blind persons that can read it.

“But I came with my wife and I’ve told her the person I want to vote for and I trust that she won’t mislead me,” he added.

He however expressed his displeasure about being unable to vote because he doesn’t have his PVC.

Also, at PU 9, Iyare, Owo LGA, a Blind voter was assisted to cast his vote because there were no braille ballot guide at the PU.
