In a heartfelt display of compassion, the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) provided essential support to the Makoko community by donating school bags, notebooks, pens, and Bibles to pupils at the Nigerian Red Cross Nursery and Primary School in Lagos.
The initiative also extended aid to 70 households, who received food items to help alleviate the impact of ongoing economic challenges.
The outreach, part of BSN’s corporate social responsibility program known as the Macedonia Call, took place on Friday at the school premises.
Representing BSN General Secretary Pastor Samuel Sanusi, Mrs. Grace Benjamin, Manager of Production and Programme, explained that the initiative seeks to ease financial burdens and ensure children have the tools needed to succeed in their education.
“This is not our first visit to Makoko,” said Mrs. Benjamin. “We’ve been here before, and we keep returning because we recognize the need. Today, we donated school bags, books, pens, and Bibles to the pupils, and food items to their families. We know this won’t solve all the problems, but it’s our way of standing in solidarity and showing that we care.”
Mrs. Benjamin also highlighted the role of organizations like BSN in complementing government efforts to address food insecurity and economic hardship, emphasizing their commitment to community wellbeing.
Mr. Olakunle Lasisi, Lagos Branch Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross, praised BSN’s generosity and reaffirmed their commitment to partnering with organizations to uplift vulnerable communities.
Mrs. Adebanke Fagbamila, a parent whose daughter attends the school, expressed deep gratitude, noting that the educational materials and food would significantly reduce her family’s financial strain.
“This came at the right time,” she said. “Things are tough right now, and this support will really help us.”
Through initiatives like this, the Bible Society of Nigeria continues its mission to make the Word of God accessible while actively supporting communities across the country with practical aid.
