Following the alleged case of sexual assault against Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, the Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Lagos State Chapter, Comrade Adeola Ekine, has advised parents to be careful and pay more attention to their wards as pedophiles are increasing in the society.

Ekine disclosed this in an interview with an online news platform in Lagos, BONews noting that pedophiles and perpetrators of sexual abuse are usually unsuspected close relatives.

She also noted that pedophiles have been devising new tactics to carry out their heinous acts, which is the reason many of them get away with their crimes over time.

“Parents should have a close relationship with children and also create a healthy communication link with them such that they’re able to speak up and report any case of abuse by ‘would be’ perpetrators,” Ekine added.

The NAWOJ chair also noted that “this is not the time to put the responsibility on mothers alone, both parents should be conscious about preventing their children from being victims of child abuse or molestation”.

She thereafter gave the assurance that the Lagos State Government and the judicial system would ensure that justice is served with regards to Baba Ijesha’s case.
