Senator representing Benue North West Senatorial District, Emmanuel Yisa Orker Jev of the People’s Democratic Party has closed his defense today in the petition brought against him by his rival in the last elections, Dr George Akume of the All Progressive Congress seeking to upturn Oker’s victory at the polls.
Petioners counsel FT Ngavan crossed examined the respondent’s star witness, Dr Bernard Bemsen Melladu, former Secretary to the Benue State Government, at the tribunal today.
Dr Melladu who was the PDP zonal collation agent for the Benue zone B Senatorial election in the 2019 general elections in his supporting evidence tendered the certified true copy of INEC result sheet and the local government results for the Benue North West Senatorial elections.
Asked whether he monitored the elections, Dr Melladu explained that, “I monitored the election in at least eleven polling units within my locality and the conduct was orderly and peaceful.”
Dr Melladu said that he was also privileged to be a member of the PDP control room and reports emanating from the field on the day of election indicated a free and fair contest.
In a brief chat with Terwase Gbasha Esq, one of the legal luminaries on the respondent team, the lawyer expressed satisfaction with the progress of the case thus far.
After the last witness testified, the tribunal adjourned the case to August 29, 2019 when both parties would submit and adopt their written statements.”
