Women Radio, WFM 91.7 has urged President Muhammadu Buharu to be deliberate and intentional in appointing women into his cabinet.
This was contained in a statement signed by Toun Okewale – Sonaiya, MD/CEO WFM.
Toun said, “As we congratulate President Muhammdu Buhari for his re-election, we urge him to be DELIBERATE and INTENTIONAL in appointing more Women into his cabinet.
“In 2015 after emerging office, President Buhari’s ministerial list of 36 nominees has only 6 women. This represents a paltry 16% of women as against 31% of female ministers in the previous admnistration of President Goodluck Jonathan. Today, Women representation in governance is at its lowest ebb in Nigeria.
“In the coming months we will be holding President Buhari to his promise to implement the national gender policy which requires that women fill 35% of appointed positions.”
CEO of Nigeria’s first and only radio station for women also urged Nigerians to vote for women at the polls on March 9th. “We also urge all well meaning Nigerians to go out on 9th March 2019 to vote more Women who have presented a better case for the transformation of their constituencies and state. A vote for Women is a vote for Inclusion and by extention Good governance”, Toun added.
