Hon Segun Odunmbaku, the Chairman of the Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has presented a cheque of 1 million Naira, food items and wheelchairs to persons with disabilities as part of palliative measures to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal on vulnerable people.
The distribution was done at the council secretariat, Oke-Ira Ogba.
The council had earlier distributed palliatives to widows and other vulnerable residents of the LCDA, providing free public transportation and subsidized foodstuff to cushion the effects of subsidy removal on people.
While speaking at the distribution ceremony, Hon. Segun Odunmbaku said the initiative was borne out of his administration’s policy of social inclusivity and welfare that aims to give PWDs a sense of belonging.
He added that all segments of society are special and equally important, and as such PWDs should be adequately catered for.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Afolabi Adebayo, the Coordinator of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Ojodu LCDA Branch, appreciated the good gesture and continuous support of the Chairman.
Adebayo noted that the items will help to cushion the effects of the economic hardship among PWDs within the locality.
He also advised other LGA and LCDA Chairs to emulate similar gestures.
Also present at the distribution event, Mrs. Josephine Omolola, Vice Chairperson of JONAPWD Lagos, praised the Mayor for his humanitarian efforts towards the improvement of lives especially the upliftment of vulnerable groups in Ojodu LCDA.
Also present at the event were stakeholders within the disability Community, Hon Opeyemi Apatira, Hon Olaide John Bello and Hon. Lekan Peters.
