The SMART Project has commemorated its sixth anniversary with a humanitarian outreach to inmates at the Abolongo Correctional Centre in Oyo State.

Themed “6-by-10: Dignity for Inmates,” the outreach featured the distribution of dignity packs to 60 inmates. Each pack contained essential personal care items, including bath soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, sponges, and detergent, basic necessities often in short supply in correctional facilities.
According to Adejumo Obasanjo, Convener, The SMART Project, in a press statement, distributing the dignity packs aligns with the organisation’s broader commitment to humane and inclusive interventions and to restore a sense of dignity among the beneficiaries.

Obasanjo said, “the outreach highlights our core values of humanity, integrity, collaboration, creativity, and community, as volunteers coordinated efforts to ensure the smooth distribution of materials and meaningful engagement with inmates.”
The statement reads in part that “founded in 2020, The SMART Project has consistently focused on supporting vulnerable populations, including children, women, youth, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and underserved communities. Its interventions span health, education, water and sanitation, economic empowerment, and civic engagement, all aimed at improving quality of life and fostering independence.
“Over the years, the organisation has implemented medical outreaches, provided educational support through school supplies and scholarships, facilitated access to clean water and sanitation, and delivered vocational training programmes. It has also supported small businesses and led civic education and peacebuilding initiatives across communities.”
