Sisters Keepers, a group dedicated to empowering young Black girls through education, mentorship, and community engagement, has launched the 2024 Black Girls in Leadership Development (B-GILD) Community Excellence Awards Program.
The BGILD Community Excellence Awards Program is designed to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary efforts of young Black girls in leadership and community, and to empower young women to become influential leaders and change-makers.
While announcing the launch in a press statement, Ajisafe Oluwaseunfunmi, Communications Consultant at Sisters Keepers, shared that 33 exceptional young leaders from Ghana, Nigeria, the UK, the US, and Kenya from over 1,300 applicants.
The award program, which entails 3 major components; mentorship and training, workshop and summer institute in Ghana, has commenced in July and will run till August 2024.
The organisation said the mentorship and training program will empower them to design, execute, and report on impactful community service projects where each participant will commit to 20 hours of community service from July 7th to August 10th 2024, guided by experienced mentors and supported through a series of structured workshops.
The program will also include four comprehensive workshops to train participants in designing, executing and evaluating the impact of their projects; and extend to the participants a one-week summer institute in Ghana, where they will receive additional mentorship from the 2024 Moremi Initiative fellows.
The statement reads in part that “recognition of contribution will be awarded to commend participants in two categories:12-15 years and 16-18 years with Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards.”
The awards will celebrate the dedication and impact of these young leaders in their respective communities.
The experience according to the statement will further enhance leadership and community service capabilities in the participants.
