A school proprietor, Mr Amos Ngani, has appealed to the government, politicians, NGOs, and other Nigerians to help in sponsoring the education of internally displaced children.
Ngani, who is the proprietor of Calvary Arrow Academy in Miango, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
The proprietor said that many displaced children in conflict communities in Plateau and other parts of Nigeria were having difficulties accessing education.
He said that the lingering conflicts have resulted in the loss of their parents, explaining that their caregivers were also poor and struggling to take care of their needs and family, and might not prioritise their education.
“So many of them (displaced children) that we have here in Miango, dropped out of school because they do not have sponsors.
“We are using this day to appeal to government, philanthropists and other well-meaning Nigerians to come to their aid.
“The donors can support those of us who are giving free and subsidised education to displaced children in our schools,” he said.
According to him, the government and NGOs can take advantage of the day to offer trauma counseling to the children to encourage them to pursue education.
He called for psychosocial support services through seminars and outreaches to schools in conflict areas, saying that the move would give the children a sense of belonging.
He prayed for God to bless parents so as to enable them train their children in both formal and informal education for a bright future
