Lagos witnessed a night of laughter, courage, and inspiration as Punchline Lagos Comedy Club hosted its first ever #OpenMic Edition.
The event, designed to spotlight emerging comedians, became historic when Dada Samuel Femi, popularly known as SammyCole, a comedian living with a disability, won the First Place prize.
SammyCole’s resilience and stage presence set him apart, leaving a lasting impression on judges and the audience alike.
With sharp wit, confidence, and impeccable timing, he held the audience spellbound, proving that talent and resilience can overcome any challenge. His disability, far from limiting him, became a symbol of strength and inspiration, making his victory the defining moment of the evening.
“For me, comedy is not just about making people laugh,” SammyCole said after being declared winner. “It’s about showing that no matter your challenges, you can still stand tall and own your stage. Winning tonight means a lot to me and to everyone who feels like the world has counted them out. I’m proof that passion always finds a way.”
The competition also showcased other rising acts, with Favour Godwin (GF Classic) taking Second Place and Subair Winnie (WinniePoo) finishing in Third.
Organizers described his triumph as a powerful validation of their mission. “Our vision has always been to help creatives scale their skills and find their voice,” said Ebunoluwa Salako, Project Manager at La’Deva. “Seeing SammyCole take the stage with so much grace and power was emotional, uplifting, and proof that true talent shines against all odds.”
The #OpenMic series is set to continue, with upcoming themed editions already scheduled: the Independence Edition on October 26, 2025, and the Santa Edition on December 28, 2025, where tickets will also double as raffle entries.
Punchline Lagos Comedy Club is positioning itself as more than a comedy stage. By creating a space for both established and upcoming acts, while promoting mental wellness and creativity, the club has carved out a unique role in the Lagos entertainment scene. With SammyCole’s inspiring victory setting the tone, its debut Open Mic has proven that comedy is not just about laughter, but about courage, resilience, and redefining possibilities.
