The Human Rights Journalist Network (HRJN) is set to host a session on how to use technology to document human rights abuses in Nigeria, at the RightsCon summit.
The RightsCon summit, the world’s leading summit on Human Rights s in the digital age, is holding its 11th edition between June 6th to 10th 2022.
In a press release issued by Kehinde Adegnoyega, the team lead of HRJN, it was noted that the theme for the session to be hosted by the HRJN is “Media Investigation and Documentation of Human Rights Abuses in Nigeria.”
According to Adegboyega, “The session will feature a rich discourse on digital tools and technological innovations that journalists, CSOs, human rights defenders and activists can deploy in tracking rights abuses and ensuring perpetrators face justice.
“The session will also explore and torchlight media investigations and documentation of Human Rights Abuses in Nigeria within the last decade.
“Through the panel discussion, participants will learn about past and current media investigation and documentation projects that leveraged technology and social media.
“Discussions will centre on the effects of technology on human rights investigation and documentation processes. Participants will have the chance to pose questions to panel members, take polls and receive pre/post session quizzes through their email.”
Speakers at the session are; Bertram Hill, Senior Journalist, BBC World Service; Kabir Adejumo, Head of Human Rights Desk, HumAngle Media, Nigeria; Nkemakonam Agunwa, Project Coordinator, Africa Witness; and Blessing Oladunjoye, Publisher of BONews Service.
