Nigerians on social media have been in frenzy mode as Nigerian Ambassador to Congo, Ibim Charles, was yesterday ejected from his official apartment by angry citizens of Congo.
In the video, which was trending on social media showed the ambassador standing helplessly as he watched his official and personal belonging being thrown out.
Speaking to journalists after the eviction, Amb. Charles said the apartment was donated by the government of Congo to the Nigerian embassy.
He said, “Nigeria and Democratic Republic of Congo have a very good relationship. In fact, this property was donated by the Democratic Republic of Congo government in the 70s.”
Meanwhile, the Nigerian government has said the embassy in Congo remains open despite the dispute.
Ferdinard Nwonye, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made this known while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.
He said, “The Nigerian Embassy in Democratic Republic of Congo was not shut down. There was a dispute on one of the properties of the mission where officials were residing,” he said.
“When we reported the matter to the Congolese government, the country authorities intervened immediately and the property was handed back to the Nigerian mission.
However, Nigerians are angry at the disrespect they receive by other “small African countries.”
They called for an urgent intervention by the government to restore the dignity and respect the country deserves as the true giant of Africa.
Revolutionary Jackson Ude, “Nigerian Embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, being ejected from their homes today by the police. Any small country in Africa can fuck with Nigeria now. Soon, Benin Republic would take over Lagos State and Buhari would be picking his teeth!”
Gbemi Dennis™ “So it’s not a joke after all. Nigerian Embassy and her Ambassador homeless. What’s happening to Nigeria #HomeAndAbroad ? From South Africa to Democratic Republic of Congo…”
Efficacy, “Nigerian Embassy, including the Ambassador in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been evicted from their office and home by the Country’s police. I remember telling someone on here that Nigeria is just a shadow of herself in the international community. Such a shame.”
Henry Shield, “#ThisIsNotMyNigeria. DR Congo just threw our Ambassador and all staff of the Nigerian Embassy in their country out of their official building. Dear President Buhari, pls keep picking your teeth.”
Gabriel M. God, “What has the Nigerian Government said about the throwing out of our Embassy officials in Congo DR? Nigeria has lost respect and honour, even in places people are scared to travel to.”
Revolutionary SEGA L’éveilleur®, “Congo… freaking Congo that barely registers on the Map of AFRICA for any good reason. It is well. See finish. When big trouble smacks you down, tiny ones will play whackamole with your belly botton.”
