The National Human Rights Commission has rescued a 13-years-old boy, simply identified as Umar Aminu after being allegedly abused by his father and stepmothers in Borno state.
A humanitarian worker, Junaid Jibril Maiva, had reported to the police that the 13-year-old boy who stays with his father and stepmothers after his parents had separated, is forced to sleep in a dingy room beside a gutter and was denied food and other basic needs.
The NHRC and officers at the ITE Police Station have arrested the prime suspect and co-perpetrator “Umar’s father”.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Umar was being kept for months at the gatehouse where he gets one meal a day so he doesn’t defecate.
As a result of monstrous and nefarious treatment Umar was subjected to, he has entirely lost his senses and couldn’t walk. Presently he looks thinner, while also experiencing discomfort due to his abnormal stature.
In the investigation which was conducted by NHRC, led by Barr Jummai Mshelia accompanied by E-D WINN, Madame Lucy Dlama, it was gathered that Umar’s stepmothers always beat him without a reason.
It was noted that the Umar will be taken for medical treatment. The father and stepmothers are currently in police custody.
