Media Rights Agenda (MRA), a Nigerian non-governmental organisation, has been named Best Media Freedom and Digital Rights Organisation in Nigeria for 2025 by the United Kingdom based Middle East and Africa (MEA) Markets Magazine as part of its annual MEA Business Awards 2025.
MEA Markets stated that the 2025 edition of the awards celebrates “the depth and diversity of the Middle East and Africa’s dynamic business landscape,” while recognising organisations that are driving growth, adapting to change, and making a meaningful impact across the region.
This year’s awards span a wide range of sectors “from power solutions to ecofriendly food waste disposal solutions, regulatory reporting services to homeschooling resources, and so much more, this year’s instalment is a powerful example of the growing excellence of business in the region.”
MRA emerged as the winner of the media freedom and digital rights category following what MEA Markets described as a “merit-led research and evaluation process,” which assessed organisations based on performance, influence, and impact within their sectors.
The organisation, Media Rights Agenda champions the protection of freedom of expression, media freedom, digital rights, and access to information.
The recognition reflects MRA’s consistent efforts to confront censorship, resist the repression of free expression, and challenge digital rights violations, especially at a time when civic spaces are narrowing and online platforms face increasing regulatory control across Africa.
Commenting on the awards, the 2025 Awards Coordinator, Kaven Cooper, said the organisers remain committed to recognising excellence.
“We work tirelessly to recognise and reward those companies and individuals which continually raise the bar across the corporate landscape,” he said.
Now in its ninth year, the MEA Business Awards recognise organisations across the Middle East and Africa whose work demonstrates excellence, innovation, and meaningful impact, following a rigorous evaluation of their sectoral contributions and regional influence.
