Towards addressing security challenges which has become the order of the day across the country, the Lagos Mainland Local Government inaugurates 30 security personnel as members of Lagos Mainland Security Minded Committe.
The Executive Chairperson, Lagos Mainland Local Government; Hon Rashidat Omolola Essien spearheaded this act during a press conference where 30 new members of Lagos Mainland Security Minded Committe were inducted.
The chairperson’s initiative followed the Federal Government’s proposal that each state should adopt community policing with the belief that it would ensure peace and reduce criminal activities in the community.
Essien had earlier donated 2 Sienna buses to the Divisional Police Officers of Denton and Iponri police stations and 4 Motorcycles to the Lagos Mainland Local Government Vigilante group.
While speaking at the press conference, leader of the security team, Agbodemu Ishola Musbau on behalf of the group affirmed their readiness to curb ant criminal act within the local government.
Agbodemu lamented that, “the Security Challenges are becoming worrisome on a daily basis but we believe that with strong collaboration with communities and law enforcement agencies with proactive and timely measures and cooperation with the security operatives through intelligence, data gathering and information dissemination we will set newer standards of peace. We also appeal to Lagos mainland residents to keep it in mind that effective policing and security is a collective responsibility of all.”
Agbodemu said it has become a tradition for cult groups to attack on specific dates but assured residents that their plans would be rendered null and void. He added that, “we are glad that the criminal gangs were unable to perpetuate their usual criminal acts on July 7th. We also want to use this opportunity to say come August 8th (8/8) and September 9th (9/9) their plans would not come to fruition because we’re ready for them.”
The residents of Lagos Mainland were told to carry on with their daily activities by maintaining peace, law and order, having the grantee that everything is in other.
In attendance were 2 Area Commander and 2 DPOs from Nigerian Railway Corporation Ebute-Metta Lagos; ACP Adegoke Alani and Area C Commander Surulere; ACP Tijani Kadiri, CSP Ogunlaja from Iponri Police Station and CSP Adedeji from Denton Police Station respectively.
The policemen gave their support, approval and assured their willingness to collaborate with the community security personnel.
The Area commanders urged them never to take laws into their hands but hand over criminals to police for further resolutions and also to take up their job with utmost sincerity and dedication.
