The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities has concluded a two-day online training for state chapters of the association as well as Disabled People Organizations.
The two day training was organized with the purpose of building the capacities of the associations across the country to enable them access grant and take initiatives that will empower the disability community.
While giving her opening remarks at the training, Ms Ekaete Judith Umoh, National President, JONAPWD explained that the purpose of the training is to strengthen the associations to be able to mobilize funds and grants for their activities.
Raheem Yusuf Olatunji, Assistant Secretary of JONAPWD, in his presentation( refer to the agenda for the topic) urged the participants to exercise high level of integrity and transparency in dealing with funders.
He also spoke on the need for proposed projects submitted for funding to be solution-driven.
Dr. Adebukola Adebayo, Chairman, JONAPWD, Lagos while putting the participants through proposal writing, explained the need for DPOs and JONAPWD state chapters to put structures in place to enable them access grants.
Dr. Adebayo shared tips on how to write concept notes and proposals.
Ms Umoh assured participants of providing adequate support to enable them win grants.
In her goodwill message; Prof Oyebola, retired professor, Special Education, University of Ibadan and initiator of JONAPWD stressed the need for inclusive development projects to address the barriers that persons with disabilities face, while Mrs Grace Alexander CEO Star Children initiative of the UK and Nigeria, spoke extensively on how emotional/ personal intelligence could be harnessed in Disability advocacy.
While Madam Ene, JONAPWD BOT urgred participants to seek partnership/colloboration in driving a more purposeful and inclusive advocacy. She later asked participants to colloborate with the Gender based Violence project, convened by NAPTIP and the Ministry of Women Affairs.
Participants across the country appreciated the organizers for the training which they believe would be of great benefit to them.
