Women under the auspice of Muslim Women in Politics have advocated for increased leadership roles for women in the Nigerian Political space.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the National Coordinator of the group, Taobah Kehinde Falade in commemoration of the International Women’s Day 2021.
Falade pointed that there is a need for an increase in the percentage of women in elective positions owing to achievements being recorded by women in recent times.
“Women are professional and competent in their respective field and as such should be respected for the progressive contribution
“Women should be given more appointments in addition to the Ministry of Women affairs at the governance structure at the federal level.”
“We have the likes of Late Dora Akunyili, Oby Ezekwesili, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala amongst others who have made the country proud in their respective leadership positions within and outside the shores of the country” She said.
It is worthy to mentioned that “Iweala just resumed as the first woman, first African to be the Director General of WTO” Falade stressed.
Falade in her words, has demanded more executive positions for the women folks other than mere women leaders within the political party structure following the global campaign theme of 2021 International Women’s Day, “Choose to challenge”
