The Medic West Africa conference attracted exhibitors from all over the world. Some of them are innovative game changers in the digital field and Artificial Intelligence, as well as the German-based company, Lecturio. Close to the entrance of the conference hall, Lecturio had a booth where Dr. Lutz Mükke, the Director, Institutional Partnerships Africa, met with hundreds of visitors from Nigeria and the region over the three-day health exhibition and conference in Lagos last month.
We interviewed him.
Africa and Nigeria are facing substantial health challenges. How does Lecturio address this?

You say that Lecturio is the most advanced learning and teaching platform for health education in the world, what is special about Lecturio?
Dr. Mükke: Our digital library covers the entire nursing and medical curricula, along with health science courses and content for Community Health Workers. We offer over 14,000 videos, tens of thousands of quiz questions, nearly 10,000 clinical cases, thousands of presentations, concept pages, hundreds of 3D Anatomy models etc. Additionally, we provide leadership and personal skills training like project management, public speaking, or project management, because we believe in a holistic way of education of health personnel.
Does Lecturio collaborate with institutions of higher learning and how do these partnerships work?
Dr. Mükke: In Africa, we have established collaborations with approximately 40 universities and colleges through institutional partnerships so far. We are just starting in Nigeria and see great opportunities for all involved. We also engage with the Ministries of Health and Education on large-scale capacity-building projects on national levels. Through these partnerships, institutions get their own tailor-made digital learning and teaching academies, tailored to their unique needs, courses and curricula – with their name, logo and corporate design colour. The partner institutions then provide access to their learners, educators, and managers within their organizations and can administer and manage their own academies. The platform delivers analytics about the learning performance of individuals and aggregated data on different levels. You can manage secure online exams and large-scale educational interventions for tens of thousands of learners and educators – data-based, learning-science-based, transparent, supported by AI.
What about the costs?
Dr. Mükke: We offer rates for institutional partnerships in Africa which differ significantly from the rates on our website. They are highly cost-efficient, sustainable, and tailored to the specific needs and situations of the institutions. With an institutional partnership, we also provide support to partners through train-the-trainer seminars and online webinars for students, making the integration of digital education into daily routines effective, ultimately leading to improved learning and teaching outcomes. By the way, pass rates go up by 50% if you learn and teach with Lecturio. Students love us and lecturers too, because we reduce their stress burden and workload significantly. And it is fun to learn and teach with a tailored Lecturio academy.
Your institutional partners receive their customized digital academy, allowing them to tailor the platform to their needs and to integrate whatever content they have from their side, right. How do you manage copyright issues?
Dr. Mükke: Our institutional partners receive their customized digital academy, allowing them to tailor the platform to their needs. Any content integrated and uploaded by our partners into their platform – videos, texts, presentations, exam questions etc. – remains their property, ensuring that it cannot be used or watched by anyone else Likewise the analytical date. As a German-based company, we operate under strict data protection and intellectual property laws to safeguard our partners’ content.
What about connectivity issues?
Dr. Mükke: You definitely need connectivity to use the platform, but we have worked on that as well and offer Apps that work offline. You can download courses and work on them offline and when you have access to an internet connection, you can continue your work. Many of our partners have free Wifi for their students on campus or in media labs.
Are you also collaborating with hospitals?
Dr. Mükke: Of course we do. They can manage their in-service training with us. For instance, we have plenty of CPD courses, accredited in the US. You can also do your NCLEX preparation with us.
