A lawyer and human rights activist, Emmanuel Ogebe has commended the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo for his swift and decisive action to have fired the DSS boss, Daura Lawal over the invasion of the National Assembly.
Ogebe posited that the prompt intervention of Osinbajo will stabilize the polity and halt the rapid slide into anarchy.
Ogebe who is based in the US described the action of the vice president who fired the head of Nigeria’s secret police as the most major government shake-up of the current administration in the last three years.
He, however, said it is not certain if Prof Osinbajo’s dismissal of Lawal Daura will stand.
He said, “Daura has been retired from the secret police for incompetence but was made the head when his uncle Buhari came to power. Daura is part of the President’s shadow cabinet and is in fact believed to be a key member of the cabal that runs the presidency and the president himself to the exclusion of VP Osinbajo and sometimes even Buhari.”
“It is an epochal move by the VP who has been criticized for standing by in the face of executive lawlessness to be on the right side of history. Inaction on his part could have brooked impeachment or total breakdown of law and order,” he added.
Ogebe alluded the intelligence of Prof Osinbajo as a professor in Law stating that even though Osinbajo did not consult the president before acting, he knows full well that as acting President he is able to do this.
He also stressed that Osinbajo, who is piloting the affairs of the country would determine the fate of Nigerians as the country is currently in a sensitive period.
