A non-governmental organization, Center for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI), had on Monday, June 25, 2018, launched a media campaign against corruption in Nigeria.
The anti-corruption campaign tagged; “Upright for Nigeria, Stand against Corruption” is part of the NGO’s project on Strengthening Citizens’ Resistance Against Prevalence of Corruption (SCRAP-C).
Speaking on the essence of the campaign, the Executive Director of CCSI, Babafunke Fagbemi explained that the campaign is a unique one, which would complement ongoing efforts by the government to tackle corruption.
She stressed that the campaign hopes to instill positive values such as integrity, honesty, transparency and hard work, to change the corruption narrative in Nigeria.
The media campaign, driven by a group of Nigerian Civil Society Organizations, is designed to challenge the current beliefs that make corruption acceptable.
It was further said that the campaign would leverage on social capital and social networks to promote a corruption averse mentality among Nigerians.
Lauding the initiative, Representative from the Lagos Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, Dolapo Adeniran, affirmed the need to instill proper values in the people and change their perception about corrupt practices and crimes.
Also speaking at the media campaign launch, Lekan Otufodunrin, Online Editor of the Nation Newspaper and Publisher, Media Career Services lamented that the media is encumbered with a lot of challenges and could not perform as much as its expected.
He urged media practitioners to hold the government accountable when required despite the challenges they may be facing.
