All roads lead to the beautiful and iconic Ilorin Golf Club in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital where over 200 golfers will be playing in the Captain’s Inaugural Kitty this weekend.
The tournament celebrates and ushers in the Club’s new captain, Alhaji Luqman Yahaya, a notable ex-banker and successful business mogul.
The two-day event is set to be one of its kind in the history of golf, hospitality and entertainment in the ancient city of Afonja, an early 19th-century generalissimo of the Old Oyo Empire in West Central Nigeria.
Speaking with journalists in the city on the frontier of the West and gateway to the North, a planning committee member, Otunba Yomi Ojo, disclosed that golfers are coming from all over Nigeria to Ilorin, Kwara State to celebrate with Alhaji Luqman Yahaya because of the notable role he has played and is still playing in the development of golf in the country, especially in the southwest region of the oil-rich and culturally diverse African nation.
The practice round and welcome cocktail with light music will be on Friday, May 19, at the Ilorin Golf Club premises, while the closing ceremony will follow after the game on Saturday May 20, 2023.
The Executive Committee and other members of the Club promised visiting golfers an exciting game experience in a carnival-like golfing atmosphere.
