As part of initiatives to make a profound impact in the country, Serene Early-Trobb Concept has provided free writing materials and academic resources to about 50 children and adolescents at Isale-Oro, a slum community nestled below ground level in Ogba, Lagos.
Led by founder and convener Ms. Rhoda Olorunfemi, Serene Early-Trobb Concept aims to foster early childhood development, promote a reading culture, boost school enrollment, and provide social-emotional support.
The initiative also seeks to inspire government action—urging the construction of more schools, improved learning environments, and the deployment of qualified teachers.
Ms. Olorunfemi shared that the annual ‘Education for All’ (Girls and Boys) 2025, aim is to partner with UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 on ‘Quality Education: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’
She also emphasized the transformative power of education noting that, “children should see education as a privilege and not take it for granted because the famous people we know all over the world took education seriously”.
She added that, when a child is educated, problem is half solved because they can grow to make the choice of career they want in life.
While announcing the coming project on school enrollment, she requested support from donors and organizations.
“We are calling on organisations for grants, sponsorship and partnership to support children from the slum areas in order to limit the gender disparities.
“We hope that we are able to get more support to reach other communities in Lagos, Ogun State and other places,” Ms Olorunfemi stated.
For Blessing Udele, an SS2 student at Oke-Ira Senior High School and one of the beneficiaries, the support is a game-changer.
“There should be a system like this that supports children like us here,” she said.
She expressed optimism that more support systems will be created by the government for children in the slum area.
Other sessions of the program includes awareness on Abuse and types, Body safety, Signs of sexual abuse and rape, group counseling and words of affirmation.
