Joy Shu’aibu, Programs Director, Sight Savers Nigeria has called for the adoption of the 4Ps Model of Disability with a view to achieving disability inclusion in Nigeria.
Shu’aibu while representing Country Director, Sight Savers made the call during the Disability Inclusion and Leadership Award which was organized by Project Enable in partnership with Hacey Health Initiative and supported by the US Consulate, Lagos, Access Bank and Google.
Shu’aibu described the 4Ps model as Programs, Platforms, Process and Policies adding that all organizations should adopt it to ensure they are not creating any form of barrier for persons with disabilities.
The 4Ps model according to her was developed by Razaq Adekoya, Head of Inclusion Works Project at Sight Savers, Sola Owonikoko, Director of Project Enable and Dr Adebukola Adebayo, Diability Inclusion Consultant.
She also stressed the need for all states across the federation to champion Inclusive Education, Inclusive transport system and also employ capable persons with disabilities into various MDAs which according to her would foster the participation of PWDs in politics and relevant fields.
She also challenged all Disability Providing Organizations to work together and forge a common front towards achieving a common goal for the disability community.
For his part, Public Affairs Officer at the US Consulate, Lagos, Russel Brooks commended Sola Owonikoko for the initiative of recognizing the efforts of individuals and organizations that have been promoting disability inclusion.
The DIAL Awards, first of its kind, witnessed presentation of awards to Disability inclusion Champion in various sectors like; Transportation, Service Provider, Education, Local & International NGOs, Civil Society, Media, Financial among others.
David Anyaele of CCD won the disability champion of the year category.
