The Boys Lives Matter Foundation has condemned what it described as an exploitative marriage involving a young autistic boy, raising serious concerns over violations of child rights and consent under Nigerian law.
The foundation expressed alarm over a marriage ceremony reportedly conducted by Apostle Chibuzao of the Omega Power Ministry, which united an adolescent boy identified as Aboy Chibuzor, who is living with autism, to an older woman.
According to the organisation, reports indicate that the arrangement was justified as a means to manage the boy’s sexual behaviour and provide care, including sexual access.
“We strongly reject this action. Under Nigerian law, a marriage requires the informed consent of both parties. This boy, who is non-verbal and extremely vulnerable, cannot provide such consent,” the statement read.
The foundation further noted that the development constitutes a violation of the boy’s fundamental rights and exposes him to significant risks. “He is entitled to protection, care, and medical supervision, not exploitation under the guise of marriage,” it added, warning of the dangers of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
Calling for immediate action, the group urged relevant authorities, child protection agencies and social services to intervene. The foundation, emphasised the need to safeguard the boy’s welfare and ensure that his rights are fully protected.
