The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities has awarded President Muhammadu Buhari as the Grand Commander of Persons with Disabilities.
The award, which was transmitted to the president through Hayjia Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, was to applaud President Buhari for his efforts in promoting the rights of PWDs in the country.
In a press statement issued by Ms. Ekaete Judith Umoh, National President, JONAPWD, it was disclosed that, “the award was conferred on President Buhari by the association during the courtesy visit of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities to the President.”
Ms. Umoh had on22nd December 2020, presented the award to the Honourable Minister for onward transmission to President Muhammad Buhari.
The statement reads in part that, “JONAPWD is very grateful to the Honorable Minister Hajyia Sadiya Umar Farouq for delivering our Award to President Muhammadu Buhari, we are indeed very appreciative of your continued support to the disability community
“Sincerely, JONAPWD thank Hon. James Lalu the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, our own very Commission and Distinguished Senator Osita Izunaso for working very closely with JONAPWD and especially for the role they played to seeing to the successful presentation of the Award.”
While presenting the Award to President Buhari on behalf of the community of persons with disability, the Hon. Minster, Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hayjia Sadiya Umar Farouq reiterated the commitment of her Ministry to the development of persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
JONAPWD thanked all persons with disabilities in Nigeria for their support and “urge everyone to work very closely with the government as we collectively see to the implementation of Disability Law.”
