Emmanuel Ogebe, Human Rights Lawyer and a member of the US Nigeria Law Group has condemned the invasion of the US Congress by some violent protesters, stressing that the US politics must not degenerate into the third world tyranny.
Ogebe made this known in a press statement issued in Washington.
Ogebe said, “as a human rights lawyer and prodemocracy advocate who was imprisoned and exiled to US decades ago for fighting a military dictator, I know a thing or two about third world juntas. America should not want to experience that.
“The US must act quickly to hold those behind the invasion of the Congress, where I have advocated for democracy and human rights in Africa for decades, accountable.”
Further expressing his displeasure in the state of America’s democracy, Ogebe said, “despite months of global BLM protests, the US Congress was never violated like this.
“It is perhaps a tragic but appropriate metaphor to a democracy-destroying third world wannabe presidency that the iconic symbol of the people’s democracy was desecrated.
“There must be a reckoning for those who truly want to wreck America’s democracy.
“Who imagined that one day, Americans themselves would chart death to American democracy?” he asked.
