Prince Alaba Adekunle, President, Adeniyi Jones Youth Forum has said youths are ready to take the mantle of leadership and will definitely emerge into political positions in 2023.
Adekunle who disclosed this in an interview with Zaynab Oyedeji, a freelance Journalist, explained that some of the challenges preventing youth’s emergence into political offices are being resolved.
Adekunle who noted that funds and intra-party politics are some of the challenges that prevent youths from emerging into political positions, stressed that, “I see the youth taking up political positions come 2023 and I am sure with the aid of technology and crowd funding platforms, a fraction of the position will be occupied by youth.”
Speaking on empowerment programs for youths advised the political office holder to engage the non- party members more in their activities and programmes.
“The government needs to be intentional in her empowerment project by engaging non-partisan youth and citizens”, he added.
He said it has been observed over time, that “most empowerment programmes are usually allotted to party loyalists and members” stressing that, “such actions won’t be beneficial to the youths at large.”
Speaking on the activities of the Forum, Adekunle said, “we observed that a number of youth within our area don’t really understand what governance is about and the platform is meant to engage their minds on positivity to the environment, the government and the country”.
