The Centre for Citizens with Disabilities has appealed to President Muhammad Buhari to asssent to the National Disability Bill.
The group in a statement signed by its Executive Director, David O. Anyaele made the call following the transmittion of the National Disability Bill by the National Assembly to the President for assent.
The bill was transmitted on Tuesday, December 18 by the Clerk of the National Assembly in line with the group’s demand for the urgent transmission of the bill to the President.
The group bemoaned that the bill has been transmitted to the President on four occasions since 1999.
Anyaele, however, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to make a difference by assenting to it.
He also called on the President to fulfil his promises to People living with disabilities.
Anyaele said, “As the Presidential candidate of APC, President Buhari promised on March 21 2015 at Lafia, Nasarawa State, to end all forms of discrimination against persons with disabilities in Nigeria if elected as the President through passage of the disability bill.
“The time for the President to fulfil his promise is now. Already, he has appointed two (Senior Special Assistant and Special Assistant) aids on disability matters.”
The group also appreciated all media organizations and development partners for their support on this campaign for the passage of the National disability bill.
