Following the observations that market women have been flouting the regulations and precautions to curb the spread of coronavirus, Gender Advocate and Rise Up Fellow, Feyikemi Idowu Fabiyi, embarked on a sensitization walk to markets in Lagos.
The sensitization walk which was terminated at Ayewadun Market located in the Kola Area of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, LCDA featured an engagement with various market women and girls.
While speaking to the women, Fabiyi explained that women and girls are more vulnerable to being infected with the pandemic because of the level of exposures they have to various persons, most especially in market places.
She charged the women to take necessary precautions because COVID-19 is real.
“As women, we need to take adequate precautions because if you are infected, you would have to go for treatment and it would affect this business you so much care about.
“In the process, you could also infect other family members,” she added.
She also spoke to the market women on “Sustainability Development Goal 3, stressing that the good health and well- being of women and girls is very important.
At the end of the sensitization walk, nose masks were distributed to over 450 market women and girls for free.
The sensitization project was supported by Mrs. Funmi Owolabi of the Office of Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Sustainability Development Goals.
