Feyikemi Fabiyi, Gender Advocate and Rise-Up Fellow, has urged adolescent girls to maintain healthy lifestyle and personal hygiene especially during their menstruation.
Fabiyi made the call while distributing sanitary pads and face masks to girls at Jankara Market, Ojokoro LCDA, Lagos, in commemoration of the Menstrual Hygiene Day 2020.
Fabiyi while speaking on Menstrual Hygiene Management advised the girls to always ensure they stay clean at all times. She spoke on the regular change of pads to avoid being stained.
She noted that access to pad and the high cost is one of the reasons school girls stay back at home during their menstrual periods, she thereby called on the government to make pads accessible for adolescent girls.
She added that, “government should make sanitary products available for girls, menstruation is not a choice like sex, it is natural and every healthy girl must menstruate.
“So, the government should make sanitary products available for girls, condom shouldn’t be the only thing that will be free, pads should be free,” she added.
Several girls benefited from the free pads that were distributed alongside face masks.
Fabiyi appreciated the support of Yinka Olajumoke Tokode: Peace House Church, Akinola Okikidayo: Oyebola Aniyaloye Foundation and Balogun Hameedat Shade: Hameedat Poverty Relief Foundation.
