The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Lagos State Chapter has distributed relief materials to over 200 female journalists and widows across Lagos State.
The palliative materials were given to NAWOJ by the Lagos State Government as part of the measures to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 lockdown in the state.
Speaking at the distribution centre at Radio Lagos Complex, Agidingbi Lagos, the Chairperson, Comrade Adeola Ekine explained that the relief materials were given to members through their chapels and children of deceased members were also called to benefit.
She said, “we also make sure we cater for some female journalists who do not belong to any chapel as well as widows and elderly women within the neighbourhood who are in dire need of the relief packages.”
Ekine expressed satisfaction with distribution pattern of relief materials in the State, adding that the State has sufficiently demonstrated capacity to reach out to the poor and vulnerable.
She further appreciated the Lagos State Government for ensuring female journalists also benefit from the interventions. According to her, the gesture from the government is an evidence that Sanwo-Olu administration is a true friend of the journalists and gender -friendly
